Accident prevention and investigation: Training on Accident Crash Reconstruction launched

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A training on Accident Crash Reconstruction targeting the engineers of the Mechanical Engineering Section of the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development, opened, this morning, in Plaine Lauzun.

The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, the Director, Mechanical Engineering, Mr Poorun Ramful, the Deputy Director, Mechanical Engineering, Mr Vivekanand Bissoon Ramsurrun, and other personalities were present on the occasion.

In his keynote address, Minister Hurreeram recalled that engineers from the Mechanical Engineering Section are responsible for the reconstruction of accident scenes and analysis of accidented vehicles.

In present days, he added, vehicles that are being driven are constructed with high technology and are able to store considerable data, which can be retrieved in order to understand accident scenes better.

The Minister indicated that it is in this context that experts from the Traffic Accident Reconstruction Services Department of South Africa were called upon to provide training on the techniques that can be used for better collection of these data as rapidly as possible as well as to improve the efficiency of our local experts.

Furthermore, Mr Hurreeram outlined some of the purposes of this training, namely: for educational purposes, that is, to better understand how an accident happened, why it happened, and how it could have been prevented, and; for the purpose of legal investigations as with the acquisition of data that cannot be contested and that have been extracted from the accident vehicle itself, it can be ensured that legal proceedings are sped up, thus helping the victim’s family to deal with their loss properly or be compensated as soon as possible.

For his part, Mr Ramsurrun underlined that this training course, of a duration of three weeks, will be conducted by two highly experienced and skilled professors and will help the engineers enhance their knowledge of accident investigation and reconstruction techniques, including vehicle dynamics, collision analysis, report writing and, how to depone evidence in Courts.
