The Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo, effected site visits, this afternoon, at Pont Ramdin, Pont Camp Caval and Ligne Berthaud located in the region of Curepipe with regard to the upcoming construction works of these bridges and road during this financial year starting as from July 2022.
The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, and the Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo, were also present.
In a statement, the Acting Prime Minister pointed out that three major developmental works will be undertaken in these sites which will help to ease the lives of inhabitants of Curepipe. He reiterated that development is underway with the support of Government.
Pont Ramdin, he said, is the entry point of Eau Coulée which is a region with many inhabitants while underlining that there is only one main access where the bridge is situated which is very narrow and has never been re-constructed for more than 100 years.
Therefore, he added, Government has given approval for the project and during this financial year, works will start to expand the road. For Pont Camp Caval, which is another old bridge, Mr Obeegadoo indicated that works will start in a few days adding that there will be diversions.
He appealed for the collaboration and sacrifice of the residents for a period of around two months. Regarding the third project which is Ligne Berthaud, Acting Prime Minister Obeegadoo pointed out that it has become a key point for the movement of people between Vacoas, Floreal and Curepipe.
To this end, he indicated that the works to broaden the road from Floreal to Curepipe will start in this financial year while highlighting that the asphalting of the road has been carried out.
For his part, Minister Hurreeram stated that Pont Ramdin, which will be a design and built project, will be funded at an estimated cost of Rs 9 million.
As for Pont Camp Caval, he said, it will be constructed to the tune of around Rs 4.4 million. The contract has been allocated to Gamma Civic and offsite works have already started and the onsite works will be launched in one week, he added.
With regards to Ligne Berthaud, a sum of Rs 25 million has been earmarked at an initial stage so as to broaden the road from Curepipe to Floreal. As for Deputy Chief Government Whip Dhunoo, he highlighted that asphalting works have been carried out on more than four kilometres on Ligne Berthaud.
