Acting Prime Minister meets with President of Botswana

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Acting Prime Minister, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo, met with the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, in the State Lounge, at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaisance, on Saturday 09 September 2023.

The President of Botswana was in transit in Mauritius. Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi was sworn in as the fifth President of the Republic of Botswana following his political party victory in the country’s General Elections of 23rd October 2019.

In a statement, the Acting Prime Minister stated that the meeting was an opportunity to talk about the excellent ties and the commonalities between the two countries. He recalled that Mauritius and Botswana, former British colonies, became independent during the same period, 1968 and 1966, respectively.

According to Mr Obeegadoo, both countries were cited as success stories in terms of economic development and dynamic democracies with Mauritius having a population of over one million people and Botswana, of more than two million people.

Discussions also focused on the recent headlines and current issues related to the African continent. The Acting Prime Minister added that both sides had reiterated the determination to strengthen the relations between the two Nations.
