Africa-Press – Mauritius. Just as Air Mauritius is struggling to cope with travel restrictions placed by the government in the wake of the COVID-19 and the airline has announced it’s embarking on an ambitious restructuring exercise, the CEO of Air Mauritius, Somas Appavou, has thrown in the towel and quit.
Ostensibly, the move is to take up a job at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). However, recent changes within the airline cast doubt on that explanation alone.
Weekly takes a look at the brief, but turbulent reign of Appavou as the CEO of the national airline. Following the violence in Delhi, India, last week, Weekly speaks to Dev Virahsawmy, writer and political observer.
Known as anti-Modi, particularly among the supporters of Modi’s ideology, Virahsawmy gives us a straightforward, rather provocative interview, in his usual fearless, no-holds barred style. He warns against the “coming danger” of the Hindutva movement and its influence in Mauritius and the propagation of Modi’s ideology.
