Ajay Gunness Affirms Government Work Amid Rumors

Africa-Press – Mauritius. “Le travail du gouvernement se poursuit,” said yesterday the deputy leader of the MMM, Ajay Gunness, at the conclusion of an emergency political bureau meeting convened to take stock of the relations between the MMM and the parti Travailliste within the government. He was accompanied by Rajesh Bhagwan and other MMM leaders. With this statement, he sought to dispel the wild rumors spreading like wildfire about a possible break between the MMM and other parties within the gouvernement du Changement on the eve of the first anniversary of the last general elections.

Ajay Gunness explained that the meeting between the leaders of the MMM and those of the parti Travailliste took place under the best conditions. It brought together, on one side, Patrick Assirvaden, Arvin Boolell, and Anil Bachoo, and on the other side Ajay Gunness, Rajesh Bhagwan, Aadil Amir Meea, Deven Nagalingum, and Arianne Navarre-Marie. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister and leader of the parti Travailliste, Navin Ramgoolam, and the Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the MMM, Paul Bérenger, met around 3 p.m. yesterday.

The one-hour discussions focused on the state of the political situation and issues that had caused concern for the MMM leader. Reliable sources indicate that following these explanations, developments will take time. It was said that the MMM ministers and Paul Bérenger will participate in the weekly deliberations of the day’s Council of Ministers.

From 4:30 p.m. yesterday, there was excitement near the headquarters of the MMM in Rose-Hill, with journalists from print and broadcast media present. Members of the MMM arrived progressively, with serious faces and without speaking, to enter the meeting room. The leader of the MMM arrived at 4:50 p.m. in his official car and quickly took his place. The meeting lasted just over an hour and ended around 5:50 p.m. Deven Nagalingum was the first to leave, followed by others, all smiling.
