Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Sweden to Mauritius with residence in Harare, Zimbabwe, Ms Åsa Pehrson, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, today, at the State House, in Réduit.
In a statement after the meeting, Ms Pehrson indicated that the exchange with the President of the Republic was very friendly and bears testimony to the long and very strong relations between our two nations.
Mauritius and Sweden share many priorities, she emphasised. Discussions, she pointed out, focused on climate change, environment, biodiversity, innovation, tourism, democracy, gender equality, and women’s rights. Ms Pehrson will serve as Ambassador for three years but due to the COVID-19 was unable to present her letters of credence until now.
Prior to taking up her position as Ambassador to Mauritius, Malawi and Zimbabwe, in 2019, Ms Åsa Pehrson, was Minister Counsellor at the Department for Foreign and Security Policy, at the Swedish Permanent Representation to the EU, in Brussels (Belgium), for six years.
From 2010 to 2013, Ambassador Pehrson was Deputy Head of Mission, Counsellor, at the Swedish Embassy in Skopje (Macedonia). She joined the Swedish Foreign Ministry in 2007 and has a long experience in engaging in democratisation processes, good governance and human rights.
Ambassador Pehrson has worked extensively with EU financial assistance and Swedish International Development Cooperation, particularly with the Western Balkans but also in relation to global work.
She is a champion of children and women rights and is a key defender of the environment. She holds an MBA International Business Administration, in French, from the University of Linkoping, Sweden.
