Ambassador Escure discusses various challenges in the Indian Ocean with President Roopun

The Ambassador for regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean zone, Mr Marcel Escure, paid a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House, in Réduit. He was accompanied by the Chargé d’Affaires of the French embassy in Mauritius, Mr Jean Lohest, and the Diplomatic Advisor to the Prefect of Reunion Island, Mr Laurent Amar.
In a statement after the meeting, Ambassador Escure highlighted that discussions with the President were cordial and friendly. Discussions, he said, focused on the friendly and cooperation ties between Mauritius and France. He recalled that France is presently occupying the chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Commission since May 2021. Both countries, he added, are engaged to collaborate on the various challenges in the region, namely climate change, blue economy, COVID-19, and reconstruction post the pandemic.
Ambassador Escure further underlined that Mauritius and France will also collaborate in constructing a more stable and developed Indian Ocean, in the respect of the environment.
In the context of his mission to Mauritius, Mr Escure met, yesterday, the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo.
A former student of l’Ecole Nationale d’Administration, Mr Marcel Escure has notably served as French Ambassador to Tanzania (2011-2014) and to Niger, from 2015 to December 2018. He has also held positions in the French embassies in Peru, Cambodia, Lebanon, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has also held several positions, including Deputy director and Head of department in the Directorate General of Political and Security Affairs. Since October 2019, he is occupying the post of Ambassador for regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean zone.
