Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union (EU) for the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Oskar Benedikt, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Sooroojdev Phokeer, at the National Assembly, in Port Louis.
In a statement, Ambassador Benedikt stressed on the significance of strengthening the existing relations between the EU and Mauritius, specifically with regard to improving the parliamentary standards.
The discussions, he pointed out, focused on how the EU can extend its support to the Mauritian Government in a bid to undertake the plausible upcoming elections in 2024 democratically, as well as to enhance the functioning of the Parliament.
Ambassador Benedikt, moreover, asserted that Mauritius is a crucial partner of the EU. Mauritius, he observed, is a democratic and peaceful country, actively engaged in good parliamentary debates.
