Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador for regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean zone, Mr. Marcel Escure, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, this afternoon, at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development House in Phoenix.
In the context of his mission to Mauritius, Mr Escure met the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo.
It is recalled that France/Reunion Island presides the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) since May 2021. The theme of the French presidency of the IOC focuses on the Indian Ocean in the post-Covid context.
The main priorities of the Presidency are:
A mobility program, including academic exchanges between IOC member states, in this case an Indian Ocean Erasmus.
An exchange programme for trainees and researchers between universities could be proposed along with continuous training. The launching of a business incubator in the region to offer more opportunities.
The setting up of a regional mechanism against maritime disasters;
The organisation of a Cape Business Indian Ocean meeting in context of the next Council of Ministers.
