Ambassador of Mexico to Mauritius meets Foreign Affairs Minister

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of Mexico to Mauritius, Mrs Sara Valdes Bolaño, met the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, yesterday, at the seat of his Ministry in Port Louis.

The meeting centered around exploring possibilities for enhancing bilateral relations between Mauritius and Mexico across economic, diplomatic, and cultural domains.

Minister Gobin also discussed the opportunity for international investors to use the Mauritius International Financial Centre to channel funds into Mexico. Furthermore, discussions focused on the collaboration between Mauritius and Mexico in the sectors of fisheries and pharmaceuticals.

The opportunities for continuous professional development of Mauritian diplomatic staff in Mexican foreign service institutions were also evoked by the Foreign Affairs Minister.

As for the Ambassador, she spoke about the growing interests of the Mexican business community in developing trade and investments across the African continent.

In this context, Mrs Valdes Bolaño will engage with private sector institutions and hold discussions pertaining to areas of potential business exchanges during her visit in Mauritius. About the Ambassador

Mrs Sara Valdes Bolano, who is currently posted in Pretoria, South Africa, while holding accreditation for Mauritius, is a career diplomat and member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1991.

From 1992 to 1997 she was attached as cultural attaché at the Embassy in Belgium while from 2000 to 2002 she was in charge of relations with the European Parliament and diplomatic advisor to the Head of the Mexican Mission to the European Union.

From 2006 to 2008, the Ambassador was Head of Chancery at the Mexican Embassy in Ireland and later served as Director of the Mexican Cultural Institute in France from 2012 to 2015.

In April 2015, she was appointed Ambassador of Mexico to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as concurrent Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Mrs Sara Valdés Bolaño completed her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the UNAM, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, in Paris, France.

She has two Master’s degrees namely, one in Social History from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, France; and another in Cultural Policies and Artistic Action from the University of Burgundy, in France. She also holds a PhD in Social History from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne.
