Ambassador of Philippines to Mauritius meets Foreign Affairs Minister

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of the Philippines to Mauritius, Miss Noralyn Jubaira Baja, paid a courtesy call, yesterday, on the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, in Port Louis.

In a statement after the meeting, the Ambassador indicated that discussions with the Minister focused on how to strengthen bilateral ties between both countries, in particular following the COVID-19 pandemic due to which several collaborations had come to a halt.

“We have to revisit the agreements that are currently under negotiation and see if they are still relevant to the present situation,” she stressed.

Miss Noralyn Jubaira Baja highlighted that additional areas where cooperation is possible were discussed with the Minister and also explore the possibility to start a bilateral consultation mechanism.

The Ambassador shared that other topics covered included: cultural exchange; food and trade; using Mauritius as a Financial Hub; and, negotiating a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

Miss Noralyn Jubaira Baja is the first female Ambassador of the Philippines to South Africa. She is a career diplomat who rose from the ranks. She is accredited to Mauritius and is currently based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Prior to her latest appointment, she was the Assistant Secretary of the Office of United Nations and International Organisations at the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs. She has also served in the Philippine diplomatic missions in Geneva, Berlin, and, Athens.
