Africa-Press – Mauritius. The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to Mauritius, Mr Sakaria Kone, paid a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement after the meeting, Mr Sakaria Kone stated that discussions with the Prime Minister focused on key areas of cooperation between the two countries, namely ICT, tourism, fisheries, and the processing of sugarcane.
He observed that Mauritius has great expertise in these sectors and added that Côte d’Ivoire is eager to benefit from the experience of Mauritius. Furthermore, he recalled that Côte d’Ivoire is the world’s largest producer of cocoa and is Africa’s leading grower of natural rubber.
He underlined that the collaboration between Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire has to be deepened in these fields so that the two countries can share experiences and learn from each other.
In that context, he underlined that several Memoranda of Understanding will be signed in eight fields, by the end of the year, between both countries.
They include: tourism, animal and fisheries resources, and aviation. He is also in favour of an Ivory Coast Day to be held in Mauritius whereby both countries can be promoted as a destination of choice.
Ambassador Kone also appealed to Mauritian investors to invest in Côte d’Ivoire since it has a good investment climate, as well as a secured and dynamic environment. Professional experience
Mr Sakaria Kone started his career in 1999 in various African Embassies in South Africa, including Guinea and Burundi, as a Personal Assistant, before joining the University of South Africa where he held the positions of International Agreements Coordinator and Internationalisation and Institutional Cooperation.
In February 2008, he joined the African Union as Head of Cabinet of the African Union Special Representative for Somalia, based in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2013, he decided to serve his country and integrated the Ivorian diplomatic service.
From March 2013 to February 2018, he was appointed First Secretary and then Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in South Africa. Recalled to Abidjan, he was appointed Ambassador and became the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic from January 2019 to October 2020.
He was then appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to South Africa and presented his credentials in November 2020.
He holds several certificates including the training of Heads of Missions on Peacekeeping Operations, Communication and Report writing and Marketing and Sales Management. He is fluent in English and French and has some knowledge of Spanish. Mr Sakaria Kone is a Knight of the National Order.
