Africa-Press – Mauritius. André Onana continues to draw heavy criticism after Manchester United’s 1–0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The Cameroonian goalkeeper, already under fire for his performances this season, was once again at fault on the decisive goal scored by Brennan Johnson.
This latest setback adds a painful line to his résumé: Onana is now the first goalkeeper to lose three European finals with three different clubs — Ajax, Inter Milan, and Manchester United.
This disastrous season sees United languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, and Onana has become a symbol of the team’s decline. Despite being recruited with high expectations, the former Inter Milan keeper has consistently underperformed and has come under fire from pundits, fans, and even former teammates like Nemanja Matic, who previously slammed his focus and decision-making.
The stats only deepen the wound. According to Opta, Onana now holds the lowest clean sheet percentage and the second-worst save rate of any Manchester United goalkeeper since 2003. As the Red Devils brace for a massive rebuild this summer, Onana’s future at the club could be under serious threat.
