Africa-Press – Mauritius. Arsenal beat Ipswich Town 1-0 on Friday to climb into the second spot in the standings of the English Premier League.
The Gunners’ German star Kai Havertz scored a first-half winner at London’s Emirates Stadium as Arsenal have 36 points in 18 matches. They are now six points behind the leaders, Liverpool.
“Three points at home is nice. Tough opponent, hard to break them down. I think they didn’t have a proper chance, we controlled the game quite well, we should’ve scored more goals. It’s so tough, every team is tough to break down. They fight for each other and at the end we’re very proud for the win,” Havertz, who brought three points to Arsenal, said after the match.
Liverpool have 42 points and are atop but the Reds have a match in hand.
London’s Chelsea are third with 35 points.
Liverpool will visit West Ham United on Sunday in London. In their next fixture, Arsenal will play an away match against Brentford on Jan. 1.
On Monday, visitors Chelsea will meet Ipswich.
