Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Mauritius, Mrs Romana Königsbrun, called, today, on the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, at the Newton Tower in Port Louis.
In a statement, the Austrian Ambassador highlighted that the meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister was cordial and focussed on the solid bilateral ties between the two countries.
Austria, she pointed out, is looking forward to explore the potential of recycling and sustainability in Mauritius, especially due to the high number of tourists who visit the island.
She also remarked that several companies in Mauritius are already committed to boost sustainable tourism. Speaking about trade, Ambassador Königsbrun underlined that Mauritius is the second largest trading partner of Austria after South Africa.
As such, she observed, her country is looking forward to further expand its reach and boost its activities with Mauritius. She, moreover, informed that an Austrian company is exploring the possibility of establishing a research and development unit in Mauritius.
Furthermore, the Austrian Ambassador seized this opportunity to emphasise that both Mauritius and Austria share a similar outlook on human rights, legal procedures, and various other aspects.
The idea of implementing digital high-tech in the field of agriculture in a bid to yield better production, as well as the prospect of Mauritius to act as a gateway to Africa and a bridge to Asia for Austria were also on the agenda.
