The Bambous Area Health Centre was inaugurated by Minister Anil Kumar Bachoo, aiming to enhance healthcare services for local residents. The facility includes various clinics, such as antenatal, well-baby, and dental services. Minister Bachoo emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public health and promoting healthy lifestyles among the community.

The Bambous Area Health Centre, comprising an Antenatal Clinic, a Well-baby Clinic, a Non-Communicable Disease Clinic, a General Consultation Unit, a Dental Clinic and a Dietician Unit, was inaugurated yesterday by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo.

The Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, Mrs Anishta Babooram, and Junior Minister of Arts and Culture, Mrs Marie Veronique Leu-Govind, were present on the occasion.

In his address, Minister Bachoo highlighted that the Area Health Centre is set to serve the inhabitants of the neighbouring regions with a range of essential health services. “Our core objective was to increase proximity to basic health care facilities that are provided in hospitals”, he pointed out.

Mr Bachoo added that the Ministry is considering providing the Area Health Centre with an ambulance for prompt delivery of emergency care for the inhabitants of the region.

Speaking about the alarming increasing prevalence of diabetes and Non-Communicable Diseases, Mr Bachoo emphasised that health prevention campaigns are being carried out to raise awareness on the importance of healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and encouraging early detection.

Minister Bachoo moreover reiterated Government’s resolve to invest massively to further improve the public health sector, indicating that up to Rs 18 billion has already been injected to this end.

In the same vein, he urged the population to maintain a healthy lifestyle and undergo regular check-ups and screenings as preventive measures.

The establishment of health centers like the Bambous Area Health Centre reflects Mauritius’s ongoing efforts to enhance public health services. Over the years, the government has invested significantly in healthcare infrastructure to ensure that essential services are accessible to all citizens. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat rising health issues, particularly non-communicable diseases, by promoting preventive care and healthy living among the population.
