Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis of Mauritius, in collaboration with National Blood Transfusion of Mauritius, organised a voluntary blood donation programme on Sunday on the occasion of Mujib Year and the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh, said a press release.
The National Blood Transfusion of Mauritius collected blood from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, Apravasi Ghat, Port Louis, on the day.

At the outset, the high commissioner Rezina Ahmed paid her tribute to Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members, martyrs in the War of Liberation, freedom fighters, injured freedom fighters and two hundred thousand of the women who lost their honour.
She expressed her gratitude towards all participants of the blood donation programme and said that blood had no substitute and it was a special gift from Bangladeshi expatriate donors to the Mauritian citizen.
She stated that the high commission would continue such philanthropic work and hoped that the Bangladeshi expatriates would continue their cooperation and support in this regard.
Rampati, regional director of health of Dr AG Jeetoo Hospital, said that the blood donation programme was a unique example of philanthropic activities.
He also donated blood on the occasion.
The event was executed maintaining the Covid-19 health protocol and restrictions on community activities of the host government.
The high commissioner Rezina Ahmed and other guests donated blood on the occasion and a total of 58 bags of blood were collected during the programme.
The programme was attended by local people along with the expatriate Bangladeshis donated blood.
