Borussia Dortmund sack manager Nuri Sahin after just 7 months

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Borussia Dortmund parted ways Wednesday with head coach Nuri Sahin after just 7 months.

“Unfortunately, we have not succeeded in fulfilling Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season as it currently stands. I wish this special club all the best,” Sahin said in a statement.

Borussia Dortmund experienced their fourth straight loss in all competitions, falling 2-1 to Bologna on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League.

After suffering three consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund slipped to 10th place, accumulating 25 points in 18 weeks.

Additionally, the team, sitting in 13th place with 12 points after seven weeks in the UEFA Champions League, was eliminated by Wolfsburg in the second round of the German Cup.

Sahin, a former Dortmund midfielder, played 274 competitive matches for The Black and Yellow, scoring 26 goals.

The now-36-year-old won the Bundesliga in 2011 and the DFB Cup in 2017, during his playing career.

From 2021 to 2023, he managed Turkish Super Lig club Antalyaspor, and in January 2024, he returned to Borussia Dortmund as an assistant coach.

He also lifted the 2012 Spanish La Liga title with Real Madrid as a player.

Sahin succeeded Edin Terzic as head coach of the German football club on a three-year contract last year.
