Breaking: 3 Airbus A350s For Air Mauritius: Airbus Clocks Its 1st Order In Paris

Africa-Press – Mauritius. After a quiet first morning, Airbus has opened its account at this year’s Paris Air Show.

Announcing an order for three of its long-range A350-900 widebodies from Air Mauritius, Airbus hopes the announcement will be the first of many it will make during the week-long event.

As the national airline of the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius, Air Mauritius is adding the three additional A350-900s to its existing fleet to expand its international network to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.

The three latest generation aircraft will bring Air Mauritius’ A350 fleet to a total of seven. The airline already operates four A350-900s alongside four A330s(1 x A330-200 and 2 x A330-900neo) aircraft in its wide-bodied fleet.

Announcing the order at the Paris Air Show today, Kresimir Kucko, CEO of Air Mauritius, said, Responding to the comments from the airline, Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International at Airbus, said,

The addition of a further A350s to the Air Mauritius fleet further strengthens the carrier’s relationship with the aircraft type itself, along with Airbus as the manufacturer.

The airline’s relationship with the type goes back to October 2017, when it received the first of its current four aircraft (registered 3B-NBP) direct from Toulouse. Since then, the airline has received a further three aircraft – 3B-NBQ (November 2017), 3B-NCE (November 2019), and 3B-NCF (December 2019).

The three existing Air Mauritius aircraft are each powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Each is operated with 326 seats in a two-class configuration. This includes 28 business class seats and 298 seats in economy class.

With its current four aircraft alongside its A330s, the airline operates from its home base of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) to 12 destinations across Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, and Australia.

The airline also operates a fleet of three ATR72-500 turboprops for inter-island flights for both point-to-point traffic and to feed its long-haul services operated by the Airbus widebody fleet.
