Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Espérance de Tunis a $15,000 fine after their supporters were found guilty of using flares during a CAF Champions League fixture against Stade Malien. The decision follows an investigation into crowd conduct during the continental clash.
The incident occurred in the stands as Espérance fans lit flares, breaching CAF’s strict regulations on stadium safety and crowd control. Such acts are considered a serious safety risk, with CAF maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on the use of pyrotechnics at its competitions.
CAF’s ruling serves as a reminder to clubs of their responsibility for supporter behavior during matches. Espérance de Tunis, one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, is expected to strengthen its crowd management measures to avoid further sanctions as the Champions League campaign continues.
