Africa-Press – Mauritius. The High Commissioner of Canada to Mauritius, Mr Christopher John Cooter, called on the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, yesterday, at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development in Phoenix.

In a statement, Mr Cooter said that discussions with the Vice-Prime Minister were very productive and focused mainly on the strong educational bilateral relations between the two countries.

He underlined that the main focus of this courtesy visit was the organisation of the International Education Week in Mauritius, in which 26 Canadian Higher Education institutions are participating.

We also agreed on going beyond simply recruiting students on flexible arrangements and the collaboration between Canadian and local education institutions to provide the right quality of education and skills required for the economy emerging globally, High Commissioner Cooter added.

About the Canadian High Commissioner The High Commissioner has served abroad as a Political Officer at Canada’s missions in Kenya from 1991 to 1994 and India from 1997 to 2000).

He was, furthermore, the Chargé d’Affaires of Cambodia in 1998 to later become the Deputy Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from 2006 to 2010.

In addition, Mr Cooter was the former High Commissioner to Nigeria and Ambassador to Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan from 2016 to 2019; the Acting Ambassador to the European Union from 2019 to 2020 to then become the acting High Commissioner to South Africa, with accreditation to Namibia, Lesotho, Mauritius, and Madagascar.
