Africa-Press – Mauritius. The second edition of the Financial Services Career Fair, aiming to regroup stakeholders of the financial services sector and create a better synergy to promote awareness and development of the financial services, was launched, this afternoon, at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower in Ebène.
The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, and the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission (FSC), Mr Dhanesswurnath Thakoor, were present at the event.
In a statement, Minister Seeruttun highlighted that financial services sector is the second most important sector of the Mauritian economy and offers multiple employment opportunities for the youth.
He nonetheless deplored that young graduates are not well informed about the job prospects that are available in the sector, and observed that there is a huge gap between the employer and the employee on the job market.
Mauritius, he recalled, exited the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force two years back. This, according to him, brought several possibilities for new investment and trade opportunities.
He further indicated that Government has come up with several measures to enable Mauritius to excel as a financial hub and be more attractive to foreign investment.
According to a survey conducted last year, underlined the Minister, the financial services sector needs some 2,500 employees so as to ensure better service delivery and consolidate the workforce.
The Career Fair, he added, will thus provide a platform for young people to have more information on job opportunities and enhance their job search network, and for employers to receive assistance in finding qualified workers.
Minister Seeruttun invited the youth and the public at large to benefit from the facilities and services that are available during this event. He also expressed hope that the Fair will open new career pathways for many young graduates.
It is recalled that the Career Fair is an initiative of the Ministry of Financial Services and Good Governance in collaboration with the Mauritius International Financial Centre, the FSC, the Financial Services Fund, Mauritius Finance, Insurers’ Association of Mauritius, and the Financial Services Institute.
The Career Fair is open to the public from 09 00 hrs to 17 30 hrs from Friday 23 June 2023 to Saturday 24 June 2023. It will be an opportunity for young people especially school leavers and graduates to discover the academic and professional requirements as well as the relevant experience required to operate in the sector. As such, it will be composed of a Recruitment Drive, a Showcase, and a Training area.
