Centrale de St.-Louis: Transparency Mauritius requests a commission of inquiry

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Transparency Mauritius evokes this Thursday, June 11 the St-Louis affair through a press release. She indicates that after the report of the African Development Bank on the alleged corruption in relation to the modernization project of the Saint Louis electric station, the State must set up a commission of inquiry in order to make the light on this whole affair.

In its report, the African Development Bank notably indicated that a Danish firm, Burmeister & Wain, allegedly bribed Mauritian officials to obtain confidential information. The company was banned from participating in tenders for a period of 21 months.

“The AfDB investigation and the ‘confessions’ of Burmeister & Wain reflects on the reputation of Mauritius, which has been trying for several weeks to convince international institutions, in particular the European Union, to remove it from its blacklist. It is therefore vital that an investigation be carried out and that the regulatory institutions operate independently,” notes Transparency Mauritius.
