Africa-Press – Mauritius. The opening ceremony of the ‘China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges’ was held on 24 January 2026 at the China Cultural Centre in Bell Village, in the presence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Dr Huang Shifang, and other personalities.

This event aimed to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and Mauritius, encourage youth creativity and innovation, and celebrate the Chinese New Year through cultural and artistic dialogue. The gathering showcased the fusion of technology, art, and cultural exchange.

On this occasion, the China–Africa Youth AI Design Art Competition 2026 Awards Ceremony, the ‘Happy Chinese New Year’ Activities Briefing Session, as well as the Exhibition of Works from the China–Africa Youth AI Design & Visual Art Competition 2026 were also held.

Information Technology students from Polytechnics Mauritius who participated in the China–Africa Youth AI Design & Visual Art Competition 2026, organised by the Academy of Design and Innovation, were awarded the second prize and recognised as the best team from Mauritius. Their project demonstrated how artificial intelligence can be applied creatively and thoughtfully, combining technology, design and problem-solving on an international platform.
