Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Mr Liying Zhu, paid a courtesy call on the Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, this morning, at the seat of the Ministry, in Port-Louis.
In a statement after the meeting, Minister Gobin highlighted that China and Mauritius have a long history of friendly relationship, and practical cooperation in various fields which has yielded fruitful results.
Speaking about commercial exchanges between the two countries, he indicated that the exportation of Mauritian products to China has increased. Special sugars from Mauritius will soon be exported to China, he announced.
In the future, Mauritius is willing to work together with China to continue deepening the pragmatic cooperation in various fields for the benefit of the two countries and their people, he concluded.
As for the Chinese Ambassador, he said that discussions with Minister Gobin focused mainly on cooperation between the two countries in the field of agro-industry.
He recalled that with the implementation of the China-Mauritius Free Trade Agreement in January 2021, commercial exchanges between the two countries will be further enhanced.
More agricultural products will be exported from Mauritius to China, for example, the Mauritian rum which is well appreciated by the Chinese, he said.
Other topics discussed during the meeting include training, cooperation in the judiciary, and exchanges between the two political parties, namely the Chinese Communist Party and the Militant Socialist Movement. Ambassador Zhu also expressed hope that the exchanges between the political parties will be further reinforced.
