
Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib, chaired, today in Port Louis, a special meeting of the City Council with the Deputy Lord Mayor and several Councillors on the relocation of hawkers at the Victoria Urban Terminal.
The meeting took note of the drawing of lots that was held on 26 October 2021 to select the 1,000 hawkers, out of the 1,183 hawkers registered with the City Council of Port Louis, who would be relocated to the Victoria Urban Terminal. Spaces for the hawkers have been allocated as follows: 800 for haberdasheries, 103 for vegetables, 52 for pre-cooked foods, and 45 for cooked foods.
The special meeting of the Council also approved letters to be sent to the selected hawkers, who would have one month, from the date of receipt of the correspondence, to submit the relevant documents and complete the administrative process.
As regards the remaining 183 hawkers, the Mayor stated that they would be accommodated at the forthcoming Immigration Urban Terminal. The Victoria Urban Terminal, upon completion, will comprise a bus terminal, office space, hawker areas, parking facilities, green spaces, a taxi stand, retail spaces, and other amenities.
