The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Anil Kumar Dip, made this statement, this morning, at Quay A in Port Louis, following a successful interception operation carried out on high seas by the CGS Barracuda.
CP Dip highlighted that this intelligence-led operation enabled the Authorities to intercept a speedboat with four Mauritian crew members trying to smuggle drugs into the country.
According to him, it is estimated that more than 500 kilogrammes of drugs (cannabis and other hard drugs) were seized during this operation, which started on 05 January 2024.
It is also suspected that the jerrycans seized contain cannabis oil but tests will have to be carried out to confirm same, he observed. He further commended all Officers involved in this operation, which was carried out with a good coordination and without leakage of information.
The Mauritius Police Force is also doing its uttermost best to disrupt the network of drug dealers so as to effectively prevent illicit drugs from entering our territory, he added.
