Construction industry: Workshop addresses ‘Estimation for Bidding Purposes’

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A workshop on ‘Estimation for Bidding Purposes’ aiming to provide an opportunity to stakeholders of the construction industry to discuss and learn how accurate estimations can be made to ensure successful bidding for constructions projects, opened, this morning at the Caudan Arts Centre in Port-Louis.

The event is an initiative of the Construction Industry Development Board. The resource person is Mr Normanda Mooroogan, an experienced Quality Surveyor and Project Manager with more than 33 years of experience in the construction industry.

Discussions are focusing on factors crucial to accurate estimating; interpreting tender documentation requirements and strategy for pricing tender; identifying risks and strategies for mitigation; and steps in preparation of cost estimate.

Present on the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Geeanesswar Bundhooa, stated that in the face of the competitive landscape of the construction industry, accurate estimation is the cornerstone of successful bidding.

Accurate estimation, he added, forms the basis for budgeting risk assessment and overall success of a project. He underlined that Government is injecting massively in economic and social infrastructure projects. It is therefore important to do the bidding process in the most efficient manner to ensure smooth operations and timely project completion, he said.
