Africa-Press – Mauritius. The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, and the personnel of the State House, were inoculated with their second booster dose, today, in Réduit.
The Vice-President, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon, and the Director of Health promotion and Research, Dr Sudhir Kowlessur, were present on the occasion.
In a statement, President Roopun called upon the population to get inoculated with their second booster dose as it will reinforce their immunity system.
He noted that the vaccination campaign against the COVID-19, launched since almost one and a half years, has proved its efficacy in Mauritius and around the globe.
He cautioned that the virus is still present and stressed on the need for the population to abide by the sanitary and precautionary measures. Some 2,500 persons are dying every day in the world due to the virus and even in Mauritius the virus is causing the death of vulnerable persons, he underlined.
He said that it is the responsibility of every individual to maintain sanitary precautions and to get inoculated. By being vaccinated a person will help to protect himself, his surroundings, and the population, he added.
As for Vice-President Boissezon, he also seized the opportunity to appeal to the population to administer their second booster dose. For his part, Dr Kowlessur highlighted that as at 18 August 2022, 14,765 persons have had their second booster dose.
He indicated that the second booster dose was initially reserved for high-risk patients but as from 01 August 2022, it is accessible to all persons aged 18 years and above.
He also underlined that the immunity of a person having administered the first, second, and first booster dose diminishes with time, hence the need for the second booster dose.
The administration of the second booster dose vaccine is being carried out in 12 vaccination centres across the country from Monday 09 00hrs to 15 00hrs and Saturday from 09 00hrs to noon, he added.
