Delegation from Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre meets ICT Minister

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A delegation from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates paid a courtesy call, today, on the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanad Balgobin, in Ebène.

The delegation, led by the Director of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, Mr Salem Humaid Al Marri, is currently in Mauritius till 24 January 2023.

The Chairperson of the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon; the Executive Director of the MRIC, Professor Theeshan Bahorun; and, other representatives of the Ministry and the MRIC were also present during the meeting with the Minister.

The courtesy call was followed by bilateral discussions focusing on strengthening cooperation in the field of satellite technology and innovation. A presentation on the ways Mauritius launched its first nanosatellite namely the Mauritius Imagery and Radiocommunications Satellite-1 (MIR-SAT1) was also on the agenda at the meeting.

Following the courtesy call, the delegation visited the Ground Station and the Roof Antenna of the MRIC. The data from the satellite are being collected by the main Ground Station at the MRIC.

Data collected will be used for capacity building, advanced research and innovation. A signing of a Framework Agreement between the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre is also scheduled later this afternoon.
