The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, today, at the Royal Green Wellness Resort, in Moka. The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, accompanied by a delegation, is in Mauritius on a two-day official visit (28 and 29 April 2023).
In a statement after the meeting, Shri Devendra Fadnavis said that the purpose of his visit to Mauritius is to unveil the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj whom, he recalled, was the greatest King in the history of India who fought with the colonial powers and taught the Indians what freedom is.
He further recalled that, today, he and his delegation participated in a business forum with Mauritian and Indian businessmen. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Economic Development Board and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to promote investment and facilitate business opportunities in Mauritius and India, he indicated.
Discussions moreover focused on tourism and soon, an MoU will be finalised in the tourism sector, he added. The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra concluded by stating that he had fruitful discussions on the potential of exploiting avenues of cooperation with both Prime Minister Jugnauth, as well as with the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, whom he had met earlier at the State House in Réduit.
Programme of visit On 29 April, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and his delegation will visit the first settlement of the Marathi Community in Mauritius at the Black River Gorges.
They will then visit the Pandhurang Khestra Mandir in Cascavelle and proceed to the Ganga Talao. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis, born on 22 July 1970, is serving as the 9th and current Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022.
He served as the 17th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019. Having been sworn-in at the age of 44, he is the second-youngest Chief Minister in Maharashtra’s history. He is also the only person to have served both as the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister of the State of Maharashtra.
He holds a graduate degree in law from Government Law College, Nagpur University, a post-graduate degree in Business Management, and a diploma in Methods and Techniques of Project Management from DSE-German Foundation for International Development, Berlin, Germany.
