Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, effected a visit this morning, at the Victoria Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in Candos. The Minister was accompanied by Dr Kaushik Mangroo, a Mauritian Paediatrician specialised in Neonatology and currently practising in Ireland, who is presently on a mission in Mauritius to help improve newborn and infant care across public hospitals.
During his visit, Dr Mangroo will have working sessions with medical teams to identify practical measures aimed at strengthening neonatal services and contributing to the reduction of infant mortality in the country.
In a statement Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo expressed gratitude to Dr Kaushik Mangroo for his assistance in improving neonatal care in public hospitals. He welcomed the positive response of the Mauritian diaspora, whose members possess valuable competencies and experience across various fields, to the Government’s call to contribute towards enhancing the country’s health services and performance.
As regards tackling the high Infant Mortality Rate in Mauritius, the Minister informed that medical equipment is being modernised and services are being upgraded. He recalled that Mauritius is also benefiting from the assistance and support of foreign experts.
Minister Bachoo moreover reiterated his vision to improve services across all medical disciplines for the wellbeing of the whole population.
On his part Dr Kaushik Mangroo underpinned his commitment, as a member of the Mauritian diaspora, to contribute to the development of his Motherland. He underscored that his mission is to support Government efforts to further improve public healthcare services for infants and premature babies.
Furthermore, Dr Kaushik Mangroo highlighted his determination to work closely with public healthcare personnel to help reduce the country’s Infant Mortality Rate, which currently stands at 14 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared to two deaths per 1,000 live births in developed countries.
