The meeting was an initiative of the Muslim Ladies Council which caters for and assists vulnerable people. It is recalled that Mr Yaseen Edoo, a disability-rights activist, was awarded the Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2015 by Queen Elizabeth II, and holds a University degree in multimedia.

The President of the Republic lauded both young men for their hard work and efforts to achieve their objective. “You are as capable as any other human being despite your physical difficulties, and are shining examples for the population,” underlined Mr Roopun.

He added that Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games have demonstrated the tenacity, perseverance and courage of people with disabilities, which have in turn inspire each and every one.

According to Mr Roopun, Government is committed to ensure that youths with disabilities emerge and are on par with other Mauritians. He stressed that though much has been done throughout the years, it is necessary to reduce the stigma and negative attitude against disabilities.

The President also commended the parents for their confidence in, as well as support, care and attention to, their children. He thanked the Muslim Ladies Council for their assistance to the less fortunate section of the population and their contribution at the service of the nation.
