Dubai Expo 2020: Minister Ganoo chairs fourth inter-ministerial meeting

Africa-PressMauritius. The fourth inter-ministerial meeting on the Dubai Expo 2020, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr.

Alan Ganoo, was held this morning in Port-Louis. Various Ministers including the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr.

Louis Steven Obeegadoo and the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, attended the meeting and each provided an update on their respective Ministry’s initiatives.

In a statement after the meeting, Minister Alan Ganoo expressed satisfaction as regards the progress made in relation to the preparations being made for the country’s participation in the Dubai Expo.

He also expressed gratitude to the private sector and the Emirates for their collaboration with the Ministry to ensure the successful planning of the country’s participation.

The Foreign Affairs Minister recalled that the Dubai Expo is a major global event, the most significant one since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it will see the participation of some 15-20 million people over the course of the six months that it will span.

He underpinned the objective of the country’s participation, which is to showcase the country on various fronts and tap into opportunities in the economic, tourism, investment sectors, amongst others. Our participation, he stressed, will act as a springboard to attract potential investors in the tourism and financial sectors. Mr.

Alan Ganoo further stated that the Ministry is planning the participation of all Ministries taking part in the event, so as to ensure that there is the participation of a Minister at regular intervals.

He also announced that Prime Minister Jugnauth will participate in the Dubai Expo in March 2022 coinciding with the independence celebrations, which will be a key moment for Mauritius.

As for the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Board Mauritius, Mr. Ken Poonoosamy, he underlined that during the meeting, all the planned initiatives of Mauritius during the 182 days of the Expo, have been reviewed.

He pointed out that the event is regrouping some 192 countries, during which each one of them will be given the opportunity to showcase their culture and economic activities, among others. Mr.

Poonoosamy underscored that several investors and business operators will visit the Expo and Mauritius should grab this opportunity to showcase all its aspects and increase its visibility on the international landscape.
