Africa-Press – Mauritius. Online courses will be maintained for all grades until 31 January 2022. Face-to-face classes will resume on 02 February 2022 for students in Grades 9, 9+, 11 and 13 whilst the remaining grades will continue with online classes and remote learning.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, made this statement, this afternoon, during a press conference in Port-Louis.

The VPM stressed that following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, based upon the current situation as regards COVID-19 pandemic in Mauritius, the Ministry has reworked the school calendar as well as resumption of classes.

Other measures will follow in case of improvement of the sanitary situation prevailing, she added. Referring to the new school calendar, Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun underscored that the aim is to create an enabling environment so as to ensure the continuity of learning activities.

These measures are imperative if we want to protect our children against the pandemic, the VPM pointed out. Furthermore, she recalled that school had resumed in a phased manner since 05 July 2021 but needed to be closed down as from 10 November 2021.

This measure, she said, was crucial to ensure the protection of students adding that teaching is being maintained through alternative methods, namely online teaching and remote learning.

The VPM indicated that since then, online classes have been broadcast on the channels of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), and various educational materials have been made accessible online through the Student Support Platform.

VPM Dookun-Luchoomun expressed satisfaction as regards the contribution of parents and educators who are carrying out their teaching sessions online so that students are able to continue their learning activities.

She appealed to them to continue in their endeavours and urged students to continue to strive hard, especially students of School Certificate/ Higher School Certificate, who will take part in the June 2022 Examinations.

She also underpinned the joint efforts of various institutions such as the Mauritius Institute of Education and the Mauritius Examination Syndicate, who worked hard to alleviate the syllabus for students who will take part in national examinations such as the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) and the National Certificate of Education (NCE) so that they are not penalised for having missed face to face classes for such a long time.

Primary schools
For primary schools, that is, Grades one to six, classes will continue online through the channels of MBC until further notice. They will also be provided with learning packs, prepared by their teachers.
