
Africa-Press – Mauritius. The European Commissioner for financial services, financial stability and Capital Markets Union, Mrs Mairead McGuinness, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, today, at the Treasury Building, in Port Louis.
The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, and the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Vincent Degert, were also present.
Mrs McGuinness is currently in Mauritius in the context of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) workshop on Tax Good Governance and Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), hosted by the Republic of Mauritius from 26 January to 30 January 2023. Earlier today, the Commissioner and Minister Seeruttun co-chaired a press conference at the InterContinental Resort Mauritius, in Balaclava.
The aims were to give an overview of the impact of money laundering and financing of terrorism on EU and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries; take stock of the progress achieved by ACP countries in dealing with AML and tax; and reiterate EU’s commitment to work closely with the organisation to address the challenges.
