European Union’s Ambassador pays farewell call on Minister Gobin

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Vincent Degert, paid a farewell call, today, on the Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, in Port Louis, to mark the end of his tenure.

Ambassador Degert dwelt on the work accomplished during his four-year tenure in Mauritius in several fields including health, maritime security, sustainable tourism, circular economy, and biomass.

Mr Degert expressed satisfaction as regards challenges that have been overcome such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Wakashio oil spill while adding that his four-year journey had been well spent in the country.

Other projects implemented through the EU’s support such as the Development-Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture, the Ridge to Reef Mauritius, and the FoodSec Semence were at the fore of discussions.

During his meeting with Minister Gobin, several other topics were touched upon such as addressing online child sexual exploitation and abuse, strengthening the food control system and phytosanitary capacity as well as consolidating regional cooperation.
