Africa-Press – Mauritius. FIFA has taken a decisive step in its global fight against racism by unveiling the Players’ Voice Panel, a group of 16 legendary figures from both men’s and women’s football.
The initiative, part of the Global Stand Against Racism strategy, aims to transform words into lasting action at a time when incidents of discrimination in football have reached record levels. With the backing of president Gianni Infantino, the project underscores FIFA’s determination to use football as a force for unity and respect.
Legends leading the charge
The panel features iconic names such as George Weah, Didier Drogba, Blaise Matuidi, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Aya Miyama. Each member brings personal experience and influence to push for meaningful change.
Their mission is to act as ambassadors for cultural transformation, advising FIFA on policy, strengthening anti-racism measures, and inspiring younger generations.
According to Infantino, the involvement of players themselves is crucial to ensure that the fight against racism resonates both on and off the pitch.
Sanctions and education combined
Beyond symbolic presence, the panel will contribute to concrete action. FIFA has recently toughened its disciplinary code with higher fines, stricter accountability for clubs, and a three-step procedure to address abuse during matches.
At the same time, education remains central: new anti-discrimination modules will be integrated into FIFA’s Football for Schools program, while legends from the panel will speak directly to young players. By combining sanctions with prevention and education, FIFA hopes to create a safer, more inclusive game where passion for football prevails over hate.
