Foreign Affairs Minister meets with the Ambassador of Israel to Mauritius

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, met with the Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Eliav Belotserkovsky, at his office, in Port Louis, yesterday.

Discussions focused on avenues for bolstering relations between the two nations. Both sides agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of water resources management, hi-tech agriculture, and healthcare.

During the talks, the Israeli Ambassador praised the Mauritian people for their exceptional hospitality and compassion towards the Jewish community during the deportation which, he stressed, had played a crucial role in rescuing them from the horrors of the Holocaust.

As for Minister Gobin, he spoke of the importance of raising awareness among the younger generation about this shared chapter of history between the two countries.

He mentioned as well upcoming events namely the Commemoration of Israel’s 75th Independence Anniversary in Port Louis and the Remembrance of the Jewish deportation to Mauritius during World War II.
