Africa-Press – Mauritius. Former Microsoft Vice-President, Mr Ernie Fernandez, met with Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

In a statement, Mr Fernandez described the meeting with Prime Minister Ramgoolam as very cordial, noting that this marks his second visit to Mauritius.

He highlighted that the discussions centered on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential to enhance healthcare, education, and the country’s Gross Domestic Product by boosting corporate productivity.

Mr Fernandez noted that he has been training personnel from Mauritian companies on implementing responsible AI and establishing sound AI governance. He has also taken part in various forums and workshops for both businesses and the public.

Currently providing consultancy and training services in Mauritius, he expressed his desire to return to the country again in the near future. With over 30 years of leadership experience, including his tenure as Vice President of Microsoft’s U. S. State and Local Government business, Mr. Fernandez brings extensive global expertise in governance, leadership, and AI.

Mauritius has been increasingly focusing on technology and innovation as key drivers of its economic development. The government has recognized the potential of AI to transform various sectors, including healthcare and education. With a growing emphasis on digital transformation, discussions with global experts like Ernie Fernandez are crucial for shaping the country’s AI strategy and governance frameworks.
