The Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Mr Olivier Becht, called on the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, this afternoon, at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.
The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, and the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, were present during the meeting. The Minister delegate is a graduate of ENA, the National School of Public Administration.
Prior to being elected National Assembly Deputy of the 5th Constituency of Haut Rhin in 2017, Mr Olivier Becht had served several posts namely Associate Professor of Law, Geopolitics and Public Finance at the University of Haute Alsace; Mayor of Rixheim, a commune in the Haut-Rhin Department; President Delegate of the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomeration and Departmental Councillor; and Vice-President of the Haut Rhin Departmental Council.
After his election, he became a member of the National Defence and Armed Forces Committee and in January 2020, was President of the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media of the Parliamentary Assembly at the Council of Europe.
Following his re-election in 2022 as Deputy, Mr Becht was named Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. He is still a member of the Rixheim Municipal Council and Councillor of the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomeration.
