Full Concrete Housing Unit Scheme: Minister Daureeawoo hands over keys of housing units to 20 families

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A total of 20 families eligible under the Social Register of Mauritius (SRM), were handed over keys of their housing units by the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, today, in Port Louis.

This initiative, under the Full Concrete Housing (FCH) Unit Scheme, is a joint collaboration of the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity and the National Empowerment Foundation.

In her address, Minister Daureeawoo indicated that the objective of the FCH project is to provide decent housing units to eligible vulnerable families so that they can live in dignity and improve their living conditions as well as provide a safe, secure and peaceful environment to their children.

She underscored the necessity for beneficiaries to put in more efforts, sacrifice, discipline and determination to work towards a better future for themselves and their children.

Government, she indicated, is putting a lot of emphasis on alleviating the poor living conditions of those at the lower rungs of the social ladder despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine and Russia War.

The Minister indicated that several schemes have been put at the disposal of vulnerable people to support and empower them to come out of the cycle of poverty.

In this endeavour, Government came up with the Marshall Plan and its poverty alleviation and empowerment programmes to ensure that vulnerable families stand on their own two feet and benefit from a decent earning.

Furthermore, she spoke of Government’s determination to construct some 12,000 affordable residential units across the country for a more inclusive society.

She added that the threshold for families to be enlisted in the SRM has been increased so as to provide more persons with support and assistance. Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo urged more people to register with the SRM to avail of all facilities and support provided by Government.

Full Concrete Housing Unit Scheme The beneficiary of the FCH Scheme should be eligible under the SRM, and be the owner of the plot of land. Beneficiaries are required to contribute to around 20% of the project cost.

The housing units are equipped with all the necessary facilities, amenities, security, and a harmonious environment where beneficiaries can live an active and healthy life in better conditions.
