British parliamentarian Geoffrey Cox, who will head a delegation of British parliamentarians at the’invitation of the PTr to observe the general elections on 10 November, in a letter addressed to Christine Sauzier, president of the’Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC), requested an appointment to discuss practical’ issues concerning legislative elections.
« I am writing on behalf of’a group of British MPs who have long admired Mauritius’ firm commitment to democracy and the rule of law. We have been invited by the Labour Party of Mauritius to visit Mauritius to attend the general elections, which will take place on 10 and 11 November. We have all presented ourselves several times in elections and look forward to knowing the’experience and practice of Mauritius in regard to’organization of’elections », stresses Geoffrey Cox.
While acknowledging that this will be an extremely busy time for the chair of’ESC and for the commission, he says that British parliamentarians would be interested to discuss with her the practical issues that arise in the organization of elections in Mauritius « and understand how you solved them ». The delegation will be in Mauritius at the end of next week.
