Africa-Press – Mauritius. The gold medal winner in the discipline of photography at the 2023 Jeux de la Francophonie, Ms Mary Dayle Melisa Madanamootoo, was rewarded with a cheque and a certificate, today, during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, in Port Louis.
The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, remitted the cheque and the certificate to Ms Madanamootoo. In a statement to the press, Minister Teeluck said that it was a matter of great pride for a Mauritian artist to win the gold medal in the cultural segment at the ninth edition of the Jeux de la Francophonie.
“Mauritius,” he underlined, “has a pool of talented artists.
” He added that the Ministry would always support and encourage local artists to develop and showcase their talents in competitions.
It is recalled that the ninth edition of the Jeux de la Francophonie was held from 28 July to 6 August 2023 in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mauritius participated in athletics/para-athletics, judo, table tennis, wrestling and in the cultural segment.
