Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Government is spearheading various projects that are all geared towards enhancing the quality of life of all citizens, and we are making much progress in our endeavour to cater for the well-being of the population.
The Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, reaffirmed his unflinching support to the population, this morning, as he effected a site visit at the market fair in Saint Pierre where an Outreach Programme for Water Tank and Pump Grant Scheme was being carried out.
He also remitted grants to various beneficiaries of the programme. The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard; and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The outreach initiative is a joint collaboration of the Central Water Authority, under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, with the Development Bank of Mauritius.

Similar events were being held concurrently at Professor J. Baguant Reception Hall in Quartier Militaire, the sub hall at St. Julien d’Hotman and the village hall at Nouvelle Découverte.

In a statement, the Prime Minister underlined that the initiative sought to enable households in water-stressed regions to store water so as to ensure 24/7 water supply in case of interruptions in water distribution.

He observed that various villages in the regions were faced with water supply issues, and that Government was offering this immediate relief by the time it invested in the necessary means and infrastructure to provide for appropriate water supply.
He added that other projects were in the pipeline to improve water distribution across the country and attain the 24/7 water supply objective. He pointed out that the Government was investing in water filtering equipment to increase water distribution capacity at Valetta and Dagotière.
The Prime Minister also stated that necessary efforts were being made in order to cater for the increasing water needs of the population. Furthermore, Mr Jugnauth encouraged all eligible beneficiaries to avail of the facilities being provided, and stressed that the eligibility criteria had been extended to enable more households to benefit from the grants.
