A cohort of 47 graduates, including two laureates who received scholarship to pursue their higher studies in France, were awarded certificates for their remarkable performance in the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) Scolaire, today, during an official ceremony held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier, the Director of the Mauritius Examination Syndicate (MES), Mrs Brenda Thanacoody-Soborun, and other personalities were present at the evet.

In her address, the Vice-Prime Minister highlighted the continuous engagement of her Ministry to locally promote French language, which is a prominent one in Mauritius.

She underlined that Mauritius and France will also work in close partnership to further promote French language in Mauritius as it is a strong connecting link between both parties.

Her Ministry, she stated, supports the DELF and encourages more young students, especially those who wish to pursue their studies in France, to register for the courses.

She also underscored the important role of the MES for setting norms and standards for the DELF as well as for training examiners. Vice-Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun seized this opportunity to commend the young graduates for their brilliant performances.

She also emphasised that the course will enable them to widen their knowledge of the French language and culture, while opening more career opportunities.

For her part, the French Ambassador indicated that the DELF was set up in 2010 following an agreement signed between the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and the Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle of the French Ambassy.

Today, observed Mrs Caussé-Tissier, there are three examination centres in Mauritius namely the Alliance française de Maurice, the MES and the Institut français de Maurice.

In addition, she remarked that there has been a considerable increase in the number of students participating for the DELF examinations. As for Mrs Thanacoody-Soborun, she congratulated all students and their parents for their hard work, perseverance and determination.
