Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Health Promotion Campaign, at the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the National Insurance Company, the Heart Foundation, Diabetes Mauritius and the Municipal Council of Curepipe, was held, on Saturday 3 June 2023, on the premises of the Council in Curepipe.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; Members of Parliament; and other personalities were present at the event. In his address, Minister Jagutpal enlightened on the findings of the National Nutrition Survey 2022.

The Document provides a clear understanding of the typical dietary practices, food choices and eating habits of the Mauritian population and their impacts on the nutritional and health status.

The key recommendations of the Survey 2022 are, namely: update and formulate the National Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023-2028; conduct awareness campaigns to encourage the population to increase their vegetables and fruits consumption; and maximise the use of digital technologies to motivate behavioural change.

It is noted that a Technical Working Group, comprising technical officers, specialised in nutrition and food safety, and members from other Ministries, Academia and Non-Governmental Organisations, has been set up with the purpose of formulating the National Plan of Action.
