High Commissioner of Cyprus to Mauritius discusses economic cooperation with Minister Alan Ganoo

Africa-Press – Mauritius. His Excellency Mr. Antonis Mandritis, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Cyprus to Mauritius, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr.

Alan Ganoo. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade in Port Louis on Tuesday, 22 August 2023.

Earlier on Monday 21 August, High Commissioner Mandritis presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr.

Pritivirajsing Roopun. On the same day, he also called on the Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. The new High Commissioner is stationed in Pretoria, and is concurrently accredited to Mauritius.

Minister Alan Ganoo and the High Commissioner reviewed the international situation and discussed the common challenges facing the two countries, including the economic consequences of Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine, and climate change.

The two sides discussed several areas of bilateral cooperation. Tourism, the maritime and naval sector, pharmaceuticals and financial services present opportunities for cooperation. Mr.

Antonis Mandritis said that he had held fruitful talks with a number of governmental and private-sector institutions to explore opportunities for trade, investment and technical cooperation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Mauritius’ appreciation of Cyprus’ support for Mauritius’ claim to full sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.

For his part, the Minister reiterated that Mauritius does not recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a territorial entity which Cyprus construes as being prejudicial to its sovereignty and its national security.

Both Minister Alan Ganoo and High Commissioner Antonis Mandritis reiterated their respective countries’ profound respect for the principles of the territorial integrity of Nations. Mauritius and Cyprus are committed to working together in international fora on issues of common interest.
