In Bel Etang: Two Teenagers Killed In Motorcycle Accident

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Two teenagers aged 16 and 18, were killed in an accident on the Route Royale in Bel Etang, Camp de Masque on the evening of Thursday 25 April. They were riding motorcycles when their vehicles collided. Mohammad Ali Bilall Hosany, also known as Bilal, an 18-year-old teenager from Petit Paquet, Montagne Blanche, was killed instantly. Yohans Coomar Bundhoo, also known as Yohans, 16, of Mont Ida, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq. His back-seat passenger, 16-year-old Akhil Ramally of Bel Etang, was seriously injured. His condition is serious. Since January this year, the death toll on our roads has risen to forty-three.

At around 7.25pm on Thursday 25 April, a team of police officers from the Camp de Masque police station, led by Sergeant Nathoo, went to the Route Royale in Bel Etang after being alerted to this accident involving two motorcycles, a pink Pulsar driven by Bilall Hossany and a Haojue motorcycle with no number plates, on which the two 16-year-old teenagers were riding.

According to footage from Safe City’s surveillance camera, the motorcycle driven by Yohans Bundhoo was traveling without headlights from Medina towards Camp de Masque. When he arrived at the Bel Etang kalimaye, he overtook a bus with his Haojue motorcycle at high speed. At that moment, he collided head-on with Bilall Hosany’s motorcycle, which was coming in the opposite direction. The collision was so violent that both motorcycles were torn apart. According to information gathered by the police from Yohans Bundhoo’s older brother, he had bought the two-wheeled machine two weeks ago. The motorcycle had been modified.

Motorcycle Accident in Bel Etang

Orphaned by their mother, the two brothers had been living with their father, who was reportedly a habitual drinker. Since Thursday evening and during the day on Friday 26 April, Akhil Ramally has undergone several surgeries.

The bodies of the two victims were autopsied at the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis on the morning of Friday 26 April by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer. He attributed the death to multiple injuries.

The funeral of the 16-year-old teenager took place at 4 pm on Friday 26 April in Bel Etang. His friends rode on motorcycles to the cremation ground at Médine Camp de Masque. Bilal Hosany’s cremation took place at 2:30 pm. He was then buried in the Montagne Blanche cemetery.

A police investigation has been launched to shed light on the exact circumstances of the accident, and particularly to find out from where the Haojue driven by Yohans Bundhoo came.
