Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs of India, Shri Vellamvelly Muraleedharan, paid a courtesy call, this evening, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr.Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit. Following the meeting with President Roopun, Minister Muraleedharan visited the recently inaugurated Ayurvedic Garden at the State House.
His visit to Mauritius gains significance in light of the commemoration of the 189th Anniversary of the arrival of Indentured Labourers in Mauritius on 2nd November 2023, to be held at Aapravasi Ghat in Port Louis.
It is recalled that Mauritius is India’s key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region and occupies a special place in the Indian Prime Minister’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
This visit is expected to further solidify the common cultural and historical legacy of the two countries, which forms the foundation of the special partnership between India and Mauritius.
